How to install win2k with ga-p35-ds3l

Hi!

I'm trying to install win2k on a IDE HD but I'm having a bit of a prob with the mobo drivers. The ones on the CD can only be installed from inside Windows - meaning - I have to have Win2k installed in order to be able to install it!
I'm afraid to run the installer on another PC to try to get my hands on the files because I don't know exactly what it's going to do and it might jam the system. I tried getting the independent files from the Intel site but they only have *.inf and *.cab files and I apparently need a *.sys and *oem file to get it running from the floppy.

Ideas anyone?

edit - Ooops! Wrong forum. Sorry, mods... ^^j

I dont get what your trying to install. When installing 2000 the only drivers you would need at the F6 would be Sata drivers, you have a IDE drive so you dont need them. The motherboard chipset and so on gets installed after you load the OS. Unless you just want a one go at it and Slipstream all your drivers to your 2000 CD.

Hey! Thanks for replying. :)

I used to need VIA drivers on F6 with my previous board otherwise the HD would not be detected by windows installer. I'm seeing the same happen with this mobo, only it has no VIA, of course. Come to think of it, I had the same prob on other PCs as well a few weeks ago, when making a few experiments.
Also, I could never boot from this CD... *sigh*
I suppose I should try making a new one to see if that much is fixable, but I'm not sure about the slipstreaming part. I already did try "injecting" the files I got from Intel on the installation I still have on my old HD and it didn't work, it keeps giving me a blue screen.

Generally these drivers that need to be installed from windows can be extracted

download 7 zip, install it, right click the driver .exe and choose extract here from the context menu. Out will come the .inf and .sys files etc..... - integrate these into a slipstremed disk using Nlite. Make sure to integrate SP4 too. Needed for some disks.

Oh, cool, I didn't know I could extract that EXE like that.
As it turned out, though, the extracted files are the same I got from Intel... Still, I'm gonna try dumping them all in my old HD instead of just the ICH9 IDE ones and see what happens, and later on I'll try burning a new CD.
I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the juicy tips. :)

Hi

I still haven't managed to test the sliptream thing. The only computer that's been available is running xubuntu so no nLite. I suppose I'll have to go about it the old way...
I am getting ready to integrate SP4, but I have no idea if that's going to change anything since my old HD had Windows fully updated. I'll let you know what happens.

At last!

Just posting to tell you how the story ended.
As it turned out, while trying another installation I happened to slip in one of the old controller drivers floppies I had tried earlier and this time it decided to work! Go figure...
So I finally managed to get win2k going and now finally got around to burn a slipstream CD with nLite, wich is cooking as I type. I included SP4, the driver in the floppy and some win updates. It's still a first test to see if I got it right, but nLite is so simple to use I shouldn't have much of a problem. :)

Thanks again for all the help.

yeah should work fine. You may want to integrate the post sp4 security rollup too. Integrate it like an update, not a service pack.
