how to make it cooler

hey guys, i got an ati radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition AGP card. i want to change the stock heatsink on it so i can get better numbers with it. the highest i got it on stock cooling was 563 mhz core and 590 mhz (1180) memory. stock numbers are 520 (526 with overdrive on) and 560.

i have ramsinks on all the memory chips (both sides). is there a better cooler for this card? i can't tell from pictures, but they all look too small, like they wouldn't do a good job. need some recommendations.

thought i'd add, that it's stable at those numbers. i've had them slightly higher, but with artfacting. how high you think i can get these numbers on air?

Put a spoiler and some rim's on it.. ;) oh, right,.. cooler in that sentence.. :o I know that the Zalman GPU cooler is very good,.. if not even the best. and if thats not sufficient, i think you'll need watercooling.

ok, maybe i'll try a zalman. do they make one with rims and a spoiler? ;)
i'll post numbers when i get one. we'll see if there's a big difference over stock.
i have a zalman cnps 950 for my cpu, but i haven't tried it yet as i'm cpu-less right now. it's bigger than i thought, but it'll fit.

He doesn't need water cooling lol, what are you talking about?Thats more so if you're on the extreme edge of overclocking. And watercooling for one thing is pointless.

Heres what id do...since ur going for str8 oc, get a nv silencer, they work and theyre very affordable, most ive seen em would be around 30. And also they are pretty simple to put on.

let me ask again, what cooler should i use that's better than stock, so i can overclock my vid card? what am i supposed to do with an answer like nv? i thought 'd get a decent response, not:

you sir, don't know who you're talking to. i'm not bragging, i'm not asking anything that has to do with extreme oc'ing. i just want to know of a good aftermarket cooler that might give me a better 3dmark. if you don't know the answer, simply DON"T answer. because if you do respond, your answer is POINTLESS.

Take a look at these, but make sure it's compatible with your card. Zalman VF700 is a very good VGA cooler too.

thanks, i have looked at these. i was hoping someone could recommend something they actually tried, product reviews only go so fer, what gpu cooler has been proven better than stock?

Flip, you beat me to it. I use these on my cards and it works great because it ports the hot air back out of the case instead of shooting it inside the case, not to mention the actual heatsink is very well made and it is wisper quite. Droped my video card temps by 10 C and my case temps 2-3 C.

First off, the nv silencer is NOT only for nvidia cards...second to pdc heres a link to the specicif arctic cooling nv silencer i was recommending..

Also pdc, as this is a forum, you dont always get exact answers and will get flames and stupid people, being bossy wont help your situation.

all i meant was i've seen these coolers. i wanted to hear from someone who's used one and hear their opinion. not being bossy, not wanting exact answers, just opinions from those who've tried aftermarket coolers and what they thought was a good one.

i can click on newegg and recommend stuff to people all day, doesn't mean i've tried the product.

Very true..i have not personally used this hsf on my equipmet, but i have installed it for a friends 7800gtx and it works like a dream, they really are worth every dollar, which kinda doesnt say much since theyre not too expensive lol.
