How to Make my Computer Better?

Hey guys this is my first time posting here, and I need some help with my computer. I have it since around 03 so it is running on a lot of old parts, and I was wondering what to upgrade to play games such as the Sims 3. Here is my Specs:

Operating System
MS Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit

CPU
Intel Celeron CPU 2.60 GHz

RAM
0.99 GB SDRAM

Motherboard
MSI 865G Neo2-PS (MS-6728G v2.0)

Graphics
Standard VGA Graphics Adapter
Intel(R) 865G Graphics Chip Accelerated VGA BIOS

Hard Drives
78GB Maxtor 6Y080L0 ATA Device

Optical Drives
Sony DVD RW DRU-830A ATA Device

Audio:
Logitech Sound System, it's a $200 system

Monitor :
IBM 1024x768

Any help or suggestions would be gladly appreciated, thanks!
 
You won't be able to play sims on that machine because of the processor you have. You will need to save money and build a new machine basically.
 
yea down grade you OS to windows XP. You could buy more ram but you need you need to find DDR memory sticks and that can cost a lot because its no longer being produced

Both actually, but a dedicated card could be added. He is limited by the cpu though. You can't even use the newer celeron 900 to play sims 3 so I know the older celeron won't.

Say I wanted to build my own computer, what is worth salvaging? Thanks for your help everyone.
 
Basically just your optical drive. You could your hard drive for extra storage space though.

However, your optical drive and hdd are most likely IDE and not SATA so if you are gonna be building a new pc then go SATA hard drive and SATA optical drive. Going SATA also gives your system better cooling.

I already have 350 gb Maxtor hard drive to start with that I got for free from a local store that was going to trash it, I figure for 400 bucks I could have a decent build
 
I really wouldn't use an old drive like that. Maxtor went out of business a few years ago and seagate took over their support. If your gonna build new, get a new hard drive. Either Western Digital, Seagate, or Samsung.

Thanks for the tips, would a hard drive like that having any selling value to make some money towards a new one?
