How to make my wireless internet better?

My wireless internet is constantly being a pain in the butt. It cuts out so often. Not cuts out as in I never have internet, but i cant watch youtube videos, I cannot chat online, its annoying. Is there any way I can get the signal to be more consistent? Im using a Belkin router. Not sure of the model, if its needed ill run and check.
 
How far away is the router from your computer?

sounds like it could be a router problem, does your router show the signal strength on it?
 
okay, no worries. Okay, how far away is the modem from your router (like how long is the cable from modem to router) and how long is the cable from wall to router? That's really unlikely to be the problem but I may as well check.

oh, and if that's not the problem we'll try to update the firmware.

Could be many reasons which will need to be eliminated one at a time. Other things could be :-

  • Your actual speeds from your exchange
  • the state of the phone wiring / connections
  • interference from say- cordless telephones,wireless baby monitors,bluetooth adapters,microwaves- all which work at around 2.4GHz frequency
I'm sure there's plenty more reasons we will need to go through including the above mentioned Firmware version you are using currently.;)

Just an idea as some wireless antennas are pants!!

  • are you on a desktop or static laptop(you don't use it around the house) ?
and if so......

  • are you able to run an ethernet lead instead of using wireless?
which would certainly ensure a stable connection between router and PC ;)
