Cheaper case, board, graphics card, monitor.

Skip the aftermarket cooler if you're not overclocking (and you won't need to).

is there any motherboards that are cheaper? i'm looking for a 2-3 PCI slot motherboard that isn't poor quality.
also, the graphics card, i've heard mixed reviews on the brand its made by, do i need to change the brand?
i'm looking at your build, how much did it cost to put together?

CASE - many people around here swear by those Antec cases, but a pretty good case can be had for $100 less then the one you have listed
HARD DRIVE - do you really need 640gb? a couple hundred GB's less wont be much cheaper but maybe $20 or so
MOTHERBOARD - I'd imagine you can find a good one for atleast $50 less
DVD BURNER - newegg has plenty drives for $5-10 less that are also the retail versions
MEMORY - Newegg seems to have that memory for $50 less after a mail in rebate
POWER SUPPLY - I personally don't aim for the higher priced PSU's when I'm buying one

If I was you I would first ask myself if I really need an i7 build and why a core 2 quad or an amd isnt enough.

i honestly dont know much at all about AMD. i just checked newegg and they seem a bit cheaper. are they cheaply made or not as fast or something as intel? like intel 920 is way more expensive than a AMD phenom II X2 550 but the AMD one seems faster just by the specs

skorax:

AMD isn't as fast on par, but they are better at certain things

for example I was reading about the Phenom II 965 and its capability to out do the 920 at gaming....

they're reliable processors, cheaper, but not as hardcore as an i7..... but for most applications AMDs are perfect

There is no AMD CPU that can match the Speed or Performance of the i7 even after overclocked to the max. The Phenom II X2 550 is a dual core CPU and is the lowest of the Phenom CPU series if you wont an AMD then look at a Phenom II X4 945 or 955 if you don't won't quad core then you can look at the Phenom II X3 720 which is a triple core CPU. AMD is the best bang for the buck AMD also seems to preform better when playing games.

I concur

Build looks good you should really get 1333MHz RAM because AMD DDR3 board will only read 1333 so if you but 1600 it will just down clock it self to 1333 plus you really wouldn't see much of a difference between 1600 and 1333. Also why not get the Antec 900 or 902 they are cheaper and just as good I don't think you need a Full tower case unless you are planning on water cooling and have quad GPU's there is really no point in it wast of money in my opinion.

Id highly recommend going core i7 if you can, as its a great platform and amd cannot touch it as of yet. Some cheaper motherboards would be these:

I've seen several benchmarks showing the phenom II 965 can out do the i7 965 Extreme at times.... it's nearly up to speed with the 920 and out does it at times too...

AMD is an overall better cpu for gaming IMHO

Links for the benchmarks would be nice
