How to MD5Sum

Hi

My first go at using linux. I've downloaded UBUNTU 6.06 with the intention of running it from a CD to, well, basically get a feel for it.

The guide for downloading and installing seems straightforward, but I can't run the MD5Sum check as described here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM
I have downloaded winMD5Sum from the link and run the installer. After rebooting the program does nothing when I try to run it. If I do 'send to' as described - again, nothing. No disc activity at all.
I'm using an old PC with win98se on it - is that likely to be the problem?
Any suggestions gratefully received.

When you download a Linux distro there is an MD5Sum number that is present at the download page. That's a number you have to use in order to verify a complete download. As well as on the download page it should be found amongst the files you download once unpacked. You use this to crosscheck to verify that all files are intact.

Thanks.
My problem was that the MD5Sum checker app would not run. I found an older version which did run though - sorted.

When I had Linux running here there were some initial problems with the checksum and MD5Sum verifications. That can be an annoyance at first. Often you are better to use an older proven tool for things like this.
