How to overclock a dell?

bios is usally locked out on dells to prevent any changes, think you will need to flash the bios first in order to open it up

There's a program that allows you to overclock, but only in windows. Once you shutdown you lose all your settings.

just go to ASUStek.com and download the latest bios and then there will be a program that you download that will flash it

i think he means to some dell web.Because i am overclocking a dell not the new computer in the sig.Anyway there is no point of flashing the bios on the new one.

Get CPU-COOL, even the free version is GRAET!!! OC is so easy with that SW. You can OC the RAM, can OC the CPU can OC the HDD can OC....well, you get the point.

flash the bios, or get a program which will let you overclock it inside of windows. these are your only two options.
you overclocked it to 2.88ghz already? thats a good overclock but id say you can get to 3.4ghz or so with a core 2 duo...
yes, on stock volts.
make sure you dont go more than 3-5mhz at a time with the fsb (meaning 27-45mhz at a time for that cpu)
you could crash your computer if you go too quickly, and if you're overclocking inside of windows, i highly suggest that you take your time... and stress test plenty.

^stress tester.
you will need to run it in two instances, so you can just open two from the zip folder that its in...

EDIT: is the core 2 duo the dell? i assume its not, now that i look closer at your specs lol

no your getting it wrong i wanna overclock my old dell. Not the computer in my sig.The computer in my sig is at 2.88 and i want it stay right now because i dont want to raise the vcore.Right now i just changed the fsb without doing anything its stable after 15 hours of 2 prime95's.So i am pretty happy.

Now to the topic.MY old dell with p4 and 128 ram is pretty shitty and i wanna play around with it and overclock it.

and ADE how did you get that system for $1000?Mine is 1700 and you have 4 raptors lol.and a 7950 gtx.Nice deal.Lol hope i could get one like that too.

Actually, I don't even own this. This is just my dream PC. didn't have enough lines to say that cause I ran out.

whats the make and model of the dell, or the model of the motherboard within the dell as its the manufacturer of the motherbaord we need to get the bios flash from (or a board posting the bios). You wont get it from dell...

CPU-E6600 OC to 3.4GHz (assuming you could do so)
RAM-3GB PC800 (3gb = no dual channel, and pc800 is REALLY slow ram)
GPU-nVIDEA GeForce 7950x2 for SLI (doesn't support FSAA and HDR at the same time anyways)
PSU- 700W (lots of wattage, not a lot of amperage.. probly still not enough for 4 video cards)
Sound card-Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS Sound Card Kit (overpriced and overrated)
MOBO-Asus P5N32-Sli SE Deluxe LGA775/ Core 2 Duo/ nForce4 SLI (overpriced, and overrated)
HDD-4 150GB Raptors in RAID. (overpriced, and overrated.. and which level of RAID btw?)
Custom made Pure copper and pure gold water cooling kit (pure copper, yet pure gold as well? too bad gold isn't as good as copper for heatsinks)
Yeah that's right. You can drool. drool at single channel ram that runs at speeds of less than 800mbps! which of course, therefore bottlenecks the rest of the system... making it total crap :D

pretty sure the board in an 8100 is nigh on impossible to overclock, some of the dells can be flashed and overclocked but its a pain in the arse due to crappy ram and psu etc.

whats the cpu, i know its p4 but the actual rating......not sure you would even gain much by overclocking it.

in all honesty i jsut don't think its worth the hassle :)
