how to overclock?

It this point in time I am using this sight to learn about computing and will prob not own a desktop for a few years, when I am no longer a student, so will not be doing any of this but I was just wondering
1) what the different methods of overclocking are?
2) is there any difference between AMD/Intel and nvidia/AMD overclocking?
3) how to overclock?
4) what programs, if done out of bios, do you suggest for overclocking

1. Different methods, unlocked cpu's you can change the multiplier, so it just affects the cpu clock speed.
If you don't have an unlocked cpu, then you have to overclock via the bus speed, which affects other components, not just the cpu.
2. amd/intel they both have different systems, but same principle, same result.
amd/nvidia, is gpu overclocking, which will have to be done in the operating system not BIOS.
3. youtube :P Just go into bios, find your area of the Bios that holds the overclockign utilites, it varies from each BIOS. And go to buss speed, increase the number slowly. e.g. my system is 200 stock, increase to 201. 200(bus speed)x15(multiplier)=3000mhz. increasing it to 201 bus speed will give me 3015mhz.
4. I dont recommend overclocking in OS. Amd has some utility I'm blanking atm.

sorry if this is general or too brief,I am quite tired.

Just make sure to note the maximum "safe" voltages, and don't exceed the CPU's max temp for long periods of time. A short stress test that goes above won't hurt it, but doing it for long will degrade the chip.
