How to paint my case???

So I want to paint my the case of my old spare computer, and I know just about nothing about painting. I've read up on some articles and know the procedures, first sanding the case, then spraying on primer, then sanding again, and then spraying on multiple layers of thin paint. However other than that I don't know much.

I'm not looking for anything brilliant, just a different colored case. Can someone enlighten me as to what paint I should buy and how to differently prepare metal and plastic?

Thanks!

This might be a question better answered at your hardware store. Haha just say you're painting on metal that already has paint on it, and you want it to be a different color.

You don't sand again after the primer. Just 1-2 layers of good primer (not the $1 the one) then 3-5 layers of your choice of paint. Remember to always paint in thin layers.

Well, for plastic just sand down until the gloss finish wears off. You don't have to sand down all the way to the bare plastic, but I guess it would be better in a way. Then just clean thoroughly with a wet cloth and let dry. Ready to paint. Apply a layer of primer then about 3 layers of paint would do.

For metal, it's basically the same procedure except, use a second layer of primer and about 2 more layers of paint.

About the paint. You can use any "all-purpose" paint for both the plastic and the metal, unless of course you want a kick-ass metallic finish, some are not "all-surface"...

Hope that helped :)
