How to pick a power supply that fits the case?

How do you go upon doing this? I have always just bought cases with the power supplies in them to save myself the trouble, but there is far better out there that I can get. Thanks.
 
It's based on form factors. MicroATX (or uatx, matx) for smaller cases, mobo's and PSU's; and ATX. Out of these, ATX is the most ubiquitous, allowing for the largest and smallest of components, and the widest, best quality selection of components.

Just match the form factors.
