I don't know about windows 7, but on windows XP, if you put .srt file and movie file in one directory and give them same name (e.g "mymovie.srt" and "mymovie.avi") - the wmp will automatically show up the subs..

Use VLC player its free and if you put the srt in the same folder as the movie it will pick them up and play the movie with subtitles.

this is what works for me, have the movie file and the .srt file in the same folder. make sure that the movie name is the same as the subtitles file. example,
movie file name: Pirates of the carribean 2
srt file name: (something other than the movie file name)

now copy the movie file name and replace it with the srt file name and then play it with either wmp11 or media player classic
