How to power pump on and off.

Hi,

My water cooling pump is powered directly through the power supply in my computer using a typical molex connector. How can I wire it so I don't have to turn off the power supply every time I shut down the computer?

I learned elsewhere that the 3.3 and 5 volt rails remain live, while the motherboard shuts down the others when the computer shuts down. So my 12V pump turns on and off with the motherboard as I wanted.

If the pump uses all 4 molex pins it will use 12v like the above poster said, and shut off when you turn the computer off.

How have you got everything wired up?

When your computer is powered off, the pump should power down as well, as it is run off of the 12v line.
