How to recover data from a dead drive???

Hi everyone,

I've one "dead" HDD - according to the tech who removed it and replaced it in my aunt's comp !... - on which there are still lots of valuable datas (pics, docs and so on...). Is there a way and a chance that I can recover these datas and if yes HOW ? :confused:

The HDD is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 200 GB.
 
It all depends on how "dead" it is... I've come across some that were failing, but still accessable for the most part. I've seen others that were completely dead and the bios couldn't even detect it correctly.

As long as the platters are still intact, it is possible to do a platter swap, but this is quite dangerous; a spec of dust can ruin it. And if you have it done professionally, it's quite expensive. Typically you'd look at around hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars.

All I could say is try to run the drive as a slave in a computer and see if it's accessable. Try a Linux Live CD as they sometimes have better luck accessing drives. Just hope the tech was full of it and trying to sell you a new drive.
 
if you can't read it then you could try get data back for ntfs (try looking on ebay) cause that program usually works real good for me

phew its good to hear you recovered your data, I've also had a problem with a seagate barracuda, what happened was during bootup it would got stuck on verifying DMI pool data, it turns out that somehow my partition had been deleted (i nearly pooped myself when i heard this) kuckily a friend of mune had some partition recovery software and manage to reciver all of my data.
