How to refresh clone.

I have a clone of my hard drive (identical 750GB), sitting in a USB dock. I used a program called "Reflect" to clone my desk top's drive. Since the cloning, I have upgraded my desk top's Hard Drive operationg system from Windows 7 to the new Windows 10.
My question is, if I want to refresh the clone from time to time, must I re-format (in effect erasing it), my clone disk or is it good to go?

If you're using a different OS, then yeah I'd say you probably would need to do a format for at least the change in OS.

When you clone it the cloning software will format the disk before it performs the clone operation.

If you didn't set up an incremental/differential image you'd probably just want to wipe the backup anyway.
