How to remove XP "Log Off <username"

I agree. I've dealt with four different XP Home installs on three different PCs, and that Tweak UI option didn't work on any of 'em... which is why I came here asking for help:P

That's why the registry guide is a good thing to download and save. You can make quite a few modifications aas long as you are careful there. Making a backup of the registry before making a few changes is always a good idea to keep in mind however. And it won't matter if it's a direct edit or a freeware used if something gets goofed up.
