recently I added the Yahoo toolbar to the computer,
but now I want to remove it

someone gave me instructions (View>Toolbars>Yahoo toolbar checkmark)

I did all this and Yahoo toolbar disappeared right away,
but when I turned the computer back on,
the Yahoo toolbar is back

how do I remove it?

That's precisely the first place to look on an XP system. For Vista the Programs and Features section is now seen in the Control Panel. The uncheck and fast disappearance in simply a view setting. The registry still loads the toolbar when IE is opened. Often you see that or a Google toolbar installed if you forget to uncheck the option for those when installing a new program or game. The crawler toolbar is another one to keep an eye out for.

Generally I advise against tool bars on IE since they open doors for spybots and adwares. The one used here has a builtin popup blocker and is free of any on the typical garbage collected by Yahoo, Google, and others. InfoSpace made the one here without the logo. http://www.infospace.com/home/tbar/ This can easily be removed as well but has none of the spy crapware built into it.
