how to repair your copy of windows xp

how do you repair your copy of windows xp do you restart pc and boot up windows xp cd and it goes through windows setup, anmd when it says what do you want to do you select repair windows, but then it goes into ms dos recovery console i havnt got a clue

ADVICE FROM PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE: you MUST use the same XP license key otherwise you will just get a message saying this product has already been activated...
