How to restore Windows vista

You should be able to activate it over the internet. You'll just need to re-type the key in when you go to activate it.

u ve to burn the file u downloaded to a dvd as it will have the extension of ".iso"
and u ll need to prepare the flash drive to use as an active partition before u can boot from it.depending on ur level of proffeciency in installtions.the simplest method for u is to burn it to a dvd using burning softwares which should be done as a" bootable disc".then u should boot from this disc to recover or install a fresh os.best of luck
 
ok so i think im getting somewhere. ive managed to download and extract the files now. and followed the steps to get it all onto my usb which is the same make he has worked with so should work fine. but how do i boot from usb now?

You're not going to use system restore. You're going to format your hard drive and reinstall Windows from scratch.

Be sure you back up any data you may need as when you format your drive, everything will be erased.

Follow this guide to walk you through installing Windows. Although when it comes to entering your product key, click next and then No. Just enter it later when you go to activate it and you'll be able to activate it online without calling Microsoft.

ok thank you for that. i got as far as formating the drive and then installing windows. it says it will reboot a few times and starts installing but when it reboots it wants to boot from my usb as its selected as the first boot device. but then it starts the process of installing it all over again when it boots.
 
After it installs for the first time and reboots, you want to change the boot priority so that the hard drive is the primary boot device.
