how to stop dell

im really annoyed every time i talk to my friends/family about buying a computer, and they seem to all say "i think im gonna get a dell or something..." and i try to tell them of the pitfalls/traps/general crapiness of dell products, and they all seem to think it really doesnt matter. its like trying to convince the sun not to rise.

lol, same thing happened to me and my parents ended up buying me a dell without even asking what i wanted, i could have gotten a alienware too because it would cost as much as they spent.

Same here... they see specs like
2.6Ghz
100GB HD
512RAM

They dont even know what kind of CPU, HDD, or MOBO, or any of the detailed specs of anything... they just go for the big numbers and think its good.

when they start talkin about getting a dell, or w/e brand that u dispies. just go "thats crap, are u kididng me?? mind as well throw it away b4 i even open the box." :)

all that dells are built for is office work and emails, anything more than that and they decide to die.....

as you can see from my sig, dells can be piles of sh*t

i agree with lcp, dells are excellent computers, the ones at our school are ancient and still run fine! and my 10 year old dell laptop workes fine, although they are not meant for gaming, just office work and for the person who konly uses the internet.

and Krimson, how much did that computer cost? if you say it was as much as an alienware, its most likely a pentium 4, but if its cheap then its probably a celeron D.

Excatly. Both of you had dells are you school or office, not at your home. Do you think there is a possibility that Dell tends to make cheaply made PC's more for the average buyer than for a big company or school???? I do. Think about it.

i have had one dell for 3 years and another for 1 year and i have upgraded the memory, psu, and video card and i have had no problems at all. My lcd monitor that i had for 2 years broke and dell sent me a new one in less than a week.

Yeah but I bet you would not get alot out of the alienware.

Really I have no problem with my dell at all. Everything works fine I love my 17' monitor and everything else is good. I can run UT2004 on high with 78 frames and most of the time with no lag.(unless other people are lagging then its the server) I still have good room on my Hard drive and I got 512 ram (256x2) Really the only thing that could make it better is a graphic card that is not on board.

Also all of you need to look at the fact that (most) parents dont play PC games so really a dell is for internet and you will have no problem with that.

Wait, you can run UT2004 on high and get 78FPS with ONBOARD GFX?!?!?!

since when?
Since always.

For $982 your getting a 2.8ghz processer
On board graphics
256 ram
with no monitor.

O and say you want to add a 6600GT card thats $200 added on. Yeah not worth it.

Finally a few people talking about DELL and making sense.

I have never had a reason to complain about my Dell computers. While I do not play computer games, I do have a few 3D modeling and rendering programs. They work just fine. While the customer service might not be great NOBODY thinks about customer service if they MADE THEIR OWN computer.... You probably tried to save as much money as possible.. so parts would be bought from multiple stores... for many people that would be quite a hassle....

Dell, HP, etc.. have tapped a marketplace that needs quality computers and dp not have the knowledge or time to make their own... which is most people.. remember, we are on a computer forum.. I expect the percentage of people who know a thing or two about computers and can build their own to be higher than the average computer user.

Im sorry its 40 but that was with this and nortons running in the background.

But my ping is like 40

ping is something different as fps.
the fps is the ammount of pictures the grafics card produces per second.
download fraps , and c for the fps yourself. ;)
http://www.fraps.com/

and where did you get a budget of $982. no budget was ever mentioned..

Just be sure to add like 5 FPS to that one since fraps will slow down you games a little bit.

Thats the 2nd lowest for a Alienware computer.

Obviously not all Dells are going to be crap. But I have heard more than a handful of horror stories about systems failing, then their replacements failing, and so on. Particularly I remember a lot about hard drives crapping out. And when you consider that reliability track record as opposed to building your own, or going with one of the higher end companies, even their low end systems, buying a Dell seems to be unwise.

no no no, see...sure, you can get a "good dell", for the sake of the people using dells. (i myself am on an old optiplex) but what you pay for it is no where near equivalent to what you get. seriously, dell puts together massive amounts of computers, therefore, to make the process a little less stressful for the higher-ups, they stick crappy parts in them. dells certainly have their uses, because it seems they have filtered into every major public school in america...but that doesnt mean theyre great.

all i try to get people to do is to become educated about buying a computer that wont kill your wallet, but at the same time will run the way you want it. i dont want my mom paying 600 dollars for 250 dollars worth of parts.

Uh psst lets not forget servers.

Except its not 5fps.... maybe 0.01fps lagtime.

Yes but car people, audio people, organic food people etc etc could say the same... all the way to the illuminati people who say not to come out of yer house....
