How do I know if the video card will work with my motherboard? The 6600gt requires a 8x agp slot, and i don't know what mine has? Also is there a way to tell what the power supply for my computer currently is without taking it apart?
Thanks
well what videocard do you have installed right now? In the control panel for your cards drivers it'll tell you what yours is running at right now wether it's 4x or 8x etc. As for the power supply goes I dont know but i'm sure there is a proggy or two that'll tell you what your power supply is putting out but the less complicated and fastest way would be to take the 30 seconds and peek inside your case, you dont have to touch anything . There should be a label that is hopefully visible (depending on case) that'll tell you what info you need to know.
Edit:
I'm a big fan of editing! LOL. Also the obvious would be to check your manual if you have one. Also while you have the side off of your case checking your psu you could check your mobo for model and number and google for the info or post back here with the info and let one of us . And welcome to the forums.
Found the manual it says that the video controller is AGP 4X and found the power supply to be 250W.
Its a wonderful Dell Dimension 4500.
Is there any way to run the 6600gt video card on this motherboard? I can easily upgrade the power supply to 500 so that isn't a problem.
My current video card is GeForce4 Ti 4200.
I have one more open pci connector--these are the ones that the sound card and the ethernet card plug into right?
Thanks
You might be able to run the 6600GT on that its defintely a close call. Do note that upgrading thr PSU isnt that easily as Dell uses custon power connections (yes proprietory)
