What are the specifications on your old computer? You may want to think about selling the parts minus the hard drive. You could use a flash drive to transfer the files or an external hard drive. You could also pull the hard drive out and hook it up to your new motherboard if it is a desktop computer.

It will take a while to transfer files from your old computer using an 8 gigabyte flash drive, but one can be purchased here for $13.

Wintec FileMate SWIVEL Enterprise Edition 8 gigabyte USB 2.0 Flash Drive - $13

After the files are transferred I would shred the entire hard drive before you sell it or give it away.

Download Zilla Data Shredder here and wipe the drive before you get rid of it.

Pick yourself up one of these. Connect it to the old hard drive, then plug the USB connection into the new computer.

I don't really want to spent any money atm, although is there a another way, like plug the old drive into the new PC and from there drag and drop?

Yes, that can possibly be done. Does the hard drive have a cord connecting it to the motherboard or is it a wide ribbon cable? If your new motherboard has the hard drive port that is compatible with the old hard drive what you suggested can be done.

But if it doesnt boot, go to the BIOS and check the order that it is reading the hard drives. You may have to change the order from IDE - Sata to SATA - IDE.

Then its just a case of drag and drop and sit back while the puter does the hard stuff for ya.
