How to upgrade a computer?

Hello all! I have HP Pavilion a365c. I have had it for a while now but recently I noticed that it became slower and freezes on me from time to time. So I decided to upgrade my old "Pentium 4". I don't know much about these computers.... but I just got a new Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83 Ghz Processor for it. But what else do I need to get to make it better? Do I need to change motherboard or not? I have 512mb ddr memory on it installed.... should I upgrade RAM to DDR2 with a few gigs? Also. I have 120 gigs processor on it right now, which is enough for me but is it enough for a new cpu?

I will post some more questions if i come up with anything...
Thanks in advance!

Yes you will need a new motherboard for the CPU and yes you will need new RAM for the new motherboard. The hard drive has absolutely nothing to do with the CPU.

1. For that cpu you would need a new mobo
2. Sounds like your running DDR, a new mobo would require DDR2 or (on more expensive motherboards) DDR3.
3. Power supply would more than likely need replaced.
4. Depending on case, might be a BTX form factor, or have very poor airflow and might need replaced.
5. Would probably need a PCI-E Graphics card unless you plan on getting a cheap motherboard with onboard video.

I believe that would equals a new computer lol if he hasn't actually bought the CPU yet then we might be able to save him.

Pretty much, not a whole lot you can do with something that old tbh.

Yea I know I have about 10 P4 computers that need DDR RAM but it costs a fortune I will probably end up selling them like is instead of buy RAM for them and selling them as a working computer since they aren't worth much either way and I probably wouldn't even make a profit if I was to buy the RAM for them.

A new computer will be best in his case

I have a power supply HP-D2537F3R on my pc. But I want to replace my current processor with this CPU. And I was wondering if I could use my old power supply or I need a new one if I am trying to upgrade my computer?
Since I am getting a new Intel Q9550 what motherboard should I get b/c my socket is different... Also will my case fit that motherboard? I have Hp Pavilion a365c?

Thanks in advance!

If anything that case would require a microatx motherboard, but those have very poor airflow and you would probably experience overheating issues. You will definately need a new power supply.
