How to "upgrade" from Windows 2000 to Windows ME

If your computer crashes, it could be that you don't meet the minimum system requirements for Windows 2000.

...or bad hardware or a bad install of 2000 maybe. Checked the RAM and HDD and tried re-installing 2000?

You could probably run some tests like Memtest86+ and similar too.

With ancient hardware your chance of failure increases exponentially.

^ Exactly and if I'm honest I think you are wasting your time with all of this unless that is the only computer you have and are somehow still browsing the web using an old browser that is compatible with Windows 2000.

Yes, they are kinda of correct... Max RAM is 2GB (If my memory serves me right..)
