Hi All,

I heard Audacity is a powerful software which can record any sound played on computer. I downloaded new version 1.3.12 because my OS is windows7. I played an short online video and wanted to record sound, but it seems not working. Does anyone have experience of Audacity? Thank you very much.

If your needs are basic you could also just use Windows Sound Recorder. It works pretty good on Windows 7.

It only has two Buttons, Start Recording, and Stop. The files are also just wma, but simple to record any Sound you can Hear on the Computer even sound from Web Videos.

I like RecordForAll better than Audacity, its easier to use. RecordForAll is a great audio recording and editing application. You can overlay tracks and add effects. A free evaluation version is available for download from - http://www.recordforall.com

for recording music playing on the computer, I found my thinkpad computer doest not have "steriomix" which means I cannot record directly from sound card.

For recordforall software, it seems there is no version for windows7 64bit platform.

Have you poked around in the Windows Recording dialog (Control Panel, Sounds, Audio, Sound Recording, Volume, Options, Properties...or similar)? Not all options are shown by default. It may be called "What U hear" or "Analog Mix"

In my case , the only option in windows recording tab is " internal microphone". There is nothing I can do. "configure" and "properties" are all in gray color.

If the audio can be streamed on VLC then VLC can also record audio.

I don't know if what we are talking about on this thread is allowed on this forum or not.I am not even sure whether recording radio is a copyright violation or not.

In audacity you just change the input device for recording in preferences. I'd give you a specific name, but it changes depending on your soundcard.

If it's a Youtube video, what I suggest is that you download Realplayer. This will give you the option to download the video. Within the Realplayer software package is Realconverter, which as the name suggests can convert files from one format to another, including taking a video file and converting it to audio only, which would seem to be what you want. Plus, Realconverter does not erase the source files, so you still have the video to enjoy as well.

Post back or PM me if you need more help.
