Ok, I'm using my grandfathers computer, an he has I went to search, an I clicked on search all files and folders. An it said all or part of the file name or a word or phrase in the file. An I was just browsing an I went to word or phrase in the file, an I typed in the letter a, an I clicked search. It pulled up about 36,000 files. An there was alot of old files, an he took a look at them an he said he didnt need them any more. What I wanted to delete is alot of notepads off there. Most of them were from 2003, an when it'll freeze up. Like if it gets to many of files while you are searching it will freeze up. I cant find those files any where else, an i need to delete them. Is there a easier way to find them and delete them?

When you search them they come up as a list.. just right click the file and choose delete

Well, they do, but when I try to the search freezes up. My gradfather says the reason for that is because it gets hung up an freezes when it searches too many files.

I would just go threw your computer manually and deside what files you need and dont need. Just becareful not to delete system files.

Try searching for a specific file name that your trying to delete, so it doesnt freeze up because of too many results

Do you have indexing enable/disable? This is a feature that Windows uses whenever you do a search. It indexes the search's so that if you ever so do search the same thing in the future, the results are faster and better.

To check, go to your Control Panel and go to "Add/Remove."
Go into the "Windows Components" and see if it is checked or not. If it is, then it may not be the case.

Additionally, when you are doing the search, if you just want to delete the .txt files (notepad files).. When you do your next search add *.*txt to the search. So for example as your previous example, you would tpe "a *.*txt" w/o quotes of course.

Then you should know the directory it is in. Go into there and if you don't see them, they may be hidden. Go into your Folder Options at the top of the folder under "Tools." Go the the VIEW tab and check "show hidden files or folder."
