how's this build?

Looks like a quality build, but a question
Why the dual core and not quad for a measly 60-70 bucks more?
I like the P45 mobo, nice choice.

Do you need that expensive MO? How about 100$ for a cheaper MO and some more for processor or video card?

looks good but change the following things

#PROCESSOR Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor $190

#Microsoft Windows XP Home SP3 for System Builders $90

get a nice Quad core, more games are now taking advantage of it.

and get Vista x64 home premium for Direct x 10 and 64bit.

I just got this processor: Intel® Boxed Core 2 Quad Processor Q9300. $180 + tax. seems really cheap. hope it's good.

I'll think Nevakonaza's right about getting just get Vista 64bit. $100 on newegg.

I was planning on installing my OS on the rapter. good idea or not?

The biostar mobo got great reviews on newegg and seems good for the price.

Thanks for the input so far!

I found this mo bo: EVGA 132-YW-E178-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI FTW ATX Intel Motherboard $210

It's a lot more than I wanted to spend for a mo bo and I'm not planning on getting SLI unless the MSI N260GTX-T2D896 OC GeForce GTX 260 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card gets really cheap.

any opinions?

You don't need a SLi board, it was more of a suggestion. Yeah, the 780i you linked is awesome, so if you're comfortable with the cost, go for it. Otherwise, the Biostar board you originally planned to purchase looks okay, although I personally prefer Intel boards made by Asus and Gigabyte.
