this is my comp that im building, im gonna be ordering the pieces and just wanted ur opinions.
1. Make sure you have a good PSU. see
PSU 101.
2. Well if you're getting that, then get serious RAM, say Mushkin Redline or OCz VX
does anyone think i shuld wait and get the fx-60 or watever.
Would it matter if you did?
Well it looks like youve got money to burn, so it might be better of waiting until the new generation of cpus arrive, they will be expensive tho.
1. Assuming of course you consider the current system inexpensive
2. Well, you can always wait for a newer generation of chips....
i will get one now and another one down the road
1. You do realize when the next gen chips come out, they will singlehandedly outperform your twin cards right?
2. You also do realize that, your mobo wont do SLI straight out of the box too right?
im doin a lot of gaming so shuld i buy like a 3700 or something of that nature and wait for the nicer cpus to come out and get those?
1. Generally speaking, "if you have to ask, then you're not going to notice a performance difference"
2. As for gaming, AMD and AMD-gaming in general is not often cache-bound so a 3700 isnt even neccesary. The extra half-meg of cache will result in a performance delta you'll damn near never experience
wat could u reccomend for a good processor that will play any game i throw at it high settings
1. It's spelt "what"
2. Sorry, you wont be able to play every game at high settings, no matter how much money you throw at it.
an OC'd 3000+ will meat or exceed the preformance of an FX55.
1. That's a load of wishful thinking. Granted you can get a 600MHz overclock if you know what you're doing out of a A64-3000 but to assume that every single A64-3000 can do so would be plain silly -- as would be comparing to the performance of a stock Athlon64FX ... something akin to suggesting that a person who is running would be able to outpace a stationary Ferrari ... true? Yes. Pointless? At least partially.
2. Do not that I'm not suggesting that the idea of buying a lower end chip and overclocking it is a bad one -- just dont expect to be able to hit the high overclocks other people can get and do realize that the FX chip will overclock better
Not to mention u could also get a really good hsf for it and also be ready to OC the next gen. processor u'll likely be getting
1. Thats plain silly. I would sincerely like to see an average K8 chip overclock to the point of being able to seriously threaten a comparable K9.....
2. Given the cost of a FX57 and 2xGTX, the cost of a heatsink is somewhat inconsequential
i dont really have much of a budget but it has to be generally reasonable.
Sounds a lot like someone isnt buying their own computer
i like the X2 but i dont think they wuld be best for gaming.
Again, no offence intended, but if you have to ask, odds are you wont notice the difference
well future games are gonna be in dual threads so a X2 would be good for those
Future?
You should look into a PPU (physics processor) along with your GPU's, even thought they're not out yet you can add them on later.
I'm glad you realize that the arent yet out yet. Also do realize that they may not even be neccesary given recent comments by Havok
They're a nice addition and mes should be taking advantage of them in a few years.
In a few years, the system is going to be horribly osolete (in the context mentioned above of runniing everything at 'high settings')
so ive got my processor and mobo down but is there anything else i can do, i dont really have much of a budget so i want to make sure i have top of the line.
1. Good PSU as I mentioned before
2. Good RAM as mentioned as well (not to say what you've picked isnt good -- just that it doesnt meet the bar set by everything else)
3. Since you dont have a budget, SCSI drives
