ok well im thinking of customizing a gameing comp soon and so far i have 700 bux saved up but im gonna have more soon well anyways this is what i was thinking of getting what u guys think because remember i want to be able to play Americas Army/Doom3/Age Of Empires3/BattleField2/And of Course Counter-Strike-Source....i dont want these damn games to look laggy/crappy/pixelized lol.....

ok im getting the following..

Case - NZXT
M.O.B.O - A8N SLi Premium Socket 939 ATX
C.P.U - AMD Athlon 64 3500+ or 3800+ Socket 939 64Bit
R.A.M - 1 G.B + 2x 256mb = 1512GB
H.D - 73GB 10k RPM
Video Card - Geforce 7800 GtX

so what you guys think is this a good set up or what??
any comments welcome....

Yea, I think its kinda nutty to have only one 10K drive when you can get twice the space for half the money, but I have six 15K 73 gb drives in RAID 50 and I have never seen better proformance:cool:

I know its a while but i'm gonna get a digital camera for christmas, so sorry but you'll have to wait till them. Just imagine a cooler master stacker with most of the drives full and a window on the side.

hahaha all that money in that computer and you dont have a digital camera yet. Im disapointed chef... tisk tisk :)

the reason im getting 73gb is because its 10k i was thinking of getting 15k but most of them are only 33gb :(
i really hate lag/slowness/patches like sp2 taking like an hour to d/l..
but on the other hand i have alot of games that i like .so i might get like 2 100-150 gb h.d's..hows that sound??

archangel...
the reason i got odd set up is because im gonna rape my computer of its parts..aka only ram lol and thats all i got 256x2..so yea..

so other than the HD do you guys think its gonna be a good set up??

P.S...

mainly i wanted to know how the mobo sounded because all the other stuff is pretty good 2me but that mobo i can get at a local microcenter so....

If you overclcok, you can just buy a 3000+ and if you know what your doing and have good ram you can get it to 2.7 ghZ. So, I would go with this:

Case - NZXT
M.O.B.O - A8N SLi Premium Socket 939 ATX
C.P.U - AMD Athlon 64 3000+ venice core
R.A.M - 1(2 if budget permits) GB OCZ ddr600
H.D - 73GB 10k RPM and 120 GB for storage
Video Card - Geforce 7800 GtX

Wonderful mobo. One of the best out now. That is what I am planning on getting.

btw.....sorry if i sound like a tottal newb but..
what does overclocked mean??
Okay let me try to explain. First off, go to the CPU section and read OC'ing 101. That will explain the basics. Basically, it is raising the speed of the CPU above stock levels. Now, to explain why a 3000+ could be overclocked more than a 3500+ you first need to understand this. Because the 3000+ and 3500+ both have a venice core and the same cache, this basically means they are the same chip. All a 3500+ is, is a factory overclocked 3000+, then price jacked up. Now, all you need is a venice core 3000+ 64, a zalman or thermalright XP-120 cooler, some nice ram, and knowledge on overclocking.

hmmm...wouldent overclocking mess up the cpu?? lol sry im gonna read faq now
but im just wondering lol..

1. i noticed the case was spec'd first... so is this machine going to emphasis looks or performance?
2. for an ASUS PCIE board, thats the king but you can do better with an MSI K8n neo4 platinum [130Usd]
3. by getting 1.5gb of ram, you're giving up a major advantage of the S939 platform - dual channel memory... so either get 2gb or 1gb
4. HDD is a waste of money, theres a lot more value in a 16mb cache Maxtor/wd drive

i would pick a second HDD. like the raptor + a 160gb 7200rpm HDD.
even though there is no advantage with the raptor for gaming

but i have six 15k 73 GB drives in RAID 50 and i have never seen better proformance
yes but we're not dealing with SCSI here and that [SCSI] is a totally different animal

the reason im getting 73gb is because its 10k i was thinking of getting 15k but most of them are only 33gb
read HDD 101.

wonderful mobo. one of the best out now. that is what i am planning on getting.
if money is no object. and "one of the best" is a fairly loose terrm

p.s...how would i get a 3000+ with 2.7 ghz? if 3500 is 2.2?
see oc 101.

btw...sorry if i sound like a tottal newb but..

see OC 101.

No. With good cooling, nice memory, and patience, nothing will be damaged. Now remeber you can cause some serious damage if you foreget the golden rule, only overclock by intervals of 5.
