HP 6370b Laptop Shutting off randomly

Hello,

I have a problem with this laptop: HP 6370b Laptop
It goes off randomly even not under load or anything.
Last couple of days have been warm so I thought it was overheating. I put a big room fan on it and it stayed on.
But, today the weather is fine, it's cool weather. And it still shuts off randomly.
It doesn't feel hot from the bottom. I have a laptop cooler that you can put underneath it.
I also ran anti-virus scans. Cleaned the computer from the inside, and also the data (cookies and stuff).

Does anyone know what is going on?

Its probably still overheating. How old is the laptop? Install a temperature monitoring program such as core temp or real temp to see what the cpu temps are. Also look in event viewer to see if anything is listed as far as a hardware issue.

The laptop is about 4 years old. I cleaned it from the inside regularly. The event log shows nothing of importance to this matter.

Core temp shows that the 2 cores are between 39 and 45 degrees Celsius.
 
Then I would say you have some sort of hardware problem. When it shuts down are you immediately able to turn it back on. It could have something to do with the charging/electical system inside the laptop.

It goes on right away without any problems. As fast as normally and without any error at boot. It runs without the battery in it.

I was thinking of doing a Repair Install on it. It has a recovery partition on it. To make sure it's not windows. And ofcourse make a backup of all the important stuff. If that doesn't help, I'll do a clean install of windows and then I'm 100% it's hardware related.
 
An update on Core Temp.

When it is underload (Executing Windows Update and internetting) I get a max temp of 53C
I checked the inside again and cleaned it. There was minimal dust on the parts.
 
It was fine since my last post yesterday. But today it went off again. I'm getting a peak of 67C which is very high. I'm also getting it after booting. But after a few seconds it goes back down to 43C average.

Is there a program to control fan speed for the HP Laptop?
 
67 degrees is quite high. I say you have a heat issue somehow. You may have to tear it apart and reapply thermal paste to the cpu after totally removing the old stuff.
 
I need to remove the top cover to unscrew the fan. Than to unscrew the heatsink to access the cpu. But, I removed every screw there is, even the hidden ones, and I still can't remove the top cover. So, I can't put on thermal paste, damn it.

Disassembly guides on the internet, for this model, are no use. What am I supposed to do?
 
So, I still have this issue. And I always have core temp running to keep an eye on it.
I'm getting random shutdowns even at temperatures below 60C and without load.

Does this start to point to a faulty hardware device?

Oh, and the laptop has a universal A/C Adapter. The old one stopped working. Could an A/C Adapter out of no where make the laptop shut off?

The old one was 18.5V and this one is set to 18V. It's customizable with steps of 1V but not .5V

It has worked very good since purchase last year. It would be odd if it is acting up all of a sudden.

The old one has 3.5A output and this newer one has 3.75A output.

I would think those differences are fine. Can I ask why the battery has been removed? Have you tried it with just using the battery and not having it plugged into wall outlet all the time?

I'll try it with just the battery.
I have it like that because I never take that laptop somewhere else. I do unplug the cable when the laptop is off.

It's been a couple of days now and it hasn't shut off.
I let the battery charge to 100%, unplug the cable and when the battery runs out, I plug it in again.

The laptop cpu still spikes to 75C, which is terrible.
 
It may be time to replace the thermal paste on the cpu. Or its possible something is wrong with the cooling fan.

I think it's the cooling fan. It used to spin up very rapidly to cool it off. It sounded as a hairblower. But, it stopped doing that as of lately.
It still spins but not very fast if it needs to.
