HP A1203W Screen problems?

I got this computer threw my fathers co-worker, who said he tried to install more memory, when i received it, it had no ram. i stuck 1 stick of 512mb ram into the bottom slot, and it starts up, but the screen stays in "sleep" mode. Any help?
 
Try another RAM stick and/or make sure that the current RAM stick is seated properly. If still no luck strip the PC down to the bare basics, take out all expansion cards (including video card unless the mobo doesn't have on board video. Even disconnect the hard drive(s). So its basically mobo, ram and CPU. If it still isn't posting after that you either have dodgy RAM or a dead mobo.

OR, its also possible the video card is dead and that's why your not getting any visual.
