i got the Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+ and installed it. however the computer does not recognize the cpu. it only shows unknown cpu 3GHz. what does that mean?

Ok, not sure what happened here. But now I'm only seeing that it supports up to the 5200+

You might want to see if there is a bios update. What version of bios is installed? The latest is version 2.36

i am away from home right now but will check the bios when i go home in about 1 month

where can i get the bios and how do i update it.

thanks

What cpu do you currently have? Max ram is only 4gb. At this stage, I wouldn't be wasting money on old system. Save money for something newer.

I downoad it but it has Windows XP and it is running dog slow. I don't want to start the upgrade and then it stop or freeze up on me. I don't know why it dog slow cause I upgraded the memory to 3gb ddr2 5300. I got it free and I just wanted to upgrade the OS to Windows 7. My main OS is a live version of Linux (Porteus) and it run supper Fast. When I do the bios upgrade I want it to work. Right now it has AMD Sempron 64 3400+ processor - 1.8GHz (800MHz front side bus 256kb L2 cache, socket (940 pin) AM2) and I think it can be upgrade to without a bios change to AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 5000+ processor 2.60GHz (1GHz front side bus 2MB L2 cache (Dual Core technology, 1MB per core) socket (940 pin) AM2) but I'm not sure of which 5000+. That why.

@68 and on a fix income and not much time left I don't need new computer and it will come with Windows 10 that OS I don't like beside it started with version 8. I got that computer for FREE the memory I all ready had so if I had to spend $20-50 on used CPU that my right price.
