HP DV1000 LCD NEED help asap

I'm working on a friend of mines notebook. its a hp dv1000. He said that there was a humming sound and then the screen went out. It is now very dim. I was reading around and i think it might be the monitor power inverter does this sound correct?

I found one on ebay and was wondering if anyone here has had this problem

Sounds like the backlight went.

It does sound like the inverter actually. Not saying that's what it is for sure, but I'd be willing to place money on it.
