HI all. Guess I'm a real greenhorn in this company. Did build one box once. Got an Intel board (D865 PERL), and stuck stuff on it till it worked pretty good, with help.
My old HP Pavilion dv5000 notebook is telling me its pretty sick:
"Back up data...Disk 2 ST 9120821as-(S1)...failure coming....
XP pack 3, Verson 2002, (registered), Intel (R) CPU 1.66 GHz, 1.49 GB RAM
I did put most of what I think I want to save on an 8 Gig flash drive. This Pavilion seems to be working fine. Have pressed F1 to boot (as now always prompted), a couple dozen times. Am using it now.
I bought a supposedly Seagate refurbished drive on Ebay, shipped for $31. My question here is can I remove my current drive, install this new one, take a stab at installing an OS, then remove the new drive I'm experimenting with and reinstall my current drive and expect it to continue to work same as it does now? In other words, can I pop one out, noodle with another one, than put mine back.
Wouldn't hesitate with a desktop, but I'm not so sure about this notebook.
Thanks, Don
