HP dv6000 Laptop, circa 2008: No Audio Device Installed

Hi All, looks like a great forum here. I've done a little browsing but have a very pressing issue here.

I have a HPdv6000 Laptop. It's been a great machine over the past several years, but I seem to have lost my audio.

I use this laptop for video editing, so it's very frustrating.

I have the notorious Red "x" over the speaker icon, and "Sound" is no longer an option in the Device Manager

Also, interestingly, YouTube videos stopped playing properly (error message appears) at the same time the audio went out

I have tried to download all new drivers (conexant), and no luck.

I hear that my next option may be to BAKE my laptop in the oven at 385 degrees for 8 minutes? Thoughts on this?

I honestly have thought and thought about this, and I do not know how to fix. The laptop otherwise operates great.

Ideas?

Thanks!

First of all, check the bios to make sure the onboard audio is enabled, some have the option to disable it. If its enabled and it still don't appear then sounds like the onboard sound is shot. Also, check the device manager for any devices that have yellow question or exlamation marks next to them meaning drivers are needed.

Thanks for the reply-- strange-- I checked the BIOS @ startup and Audio is Enabled

Device manager looks clean, no caution marks.

So, Looks like onboard sound is shot? What exactly does this mean, and what does fixing it entail?

What does Device manager say is installed for an audio device?

Might not be the best option but you could get a USB audio card if the one in your system is completely broken. I wouldn't risk breaking the laptop baking it when there are add on cards that would give you your audio back.

In the Device Manager, "Sound" as an option is no longer even there.. it has vanished.

The Audio Card option sounds like one of my only options. Are there any brand reccomendations you have? This laptop isnt exactly my pride and joy- just need something to get work done with (video editing)
