Hello . i have a question that had been ringing in my haed so much! is Hp good or not? We have one right now at home, well, its at the companie, geting fix for the 4th time since october, beleive it or not. It crashes and its so much trouble. My sister is completly anti-HP, ecept for their printers.

But i wonder if it is just a default in this computer. We have an
HP Pavilon f1503 512 MB memory, 160 GB hard drive, DVD-+RW DL burner,

i need to get my own soon, and i love the softwear that HP came with. So what do you suggest? i mainly use my computer for internet-school-a bit gaming- lots of movie playing and burning.

i also want to know which screen would be good?!!! i will like to have the one that is really wide, and it can be put up or down, since most movies are widescreen versions (well the one i have).

Any help and suggestions for clearing!
thx
Chris

1. What is your budget?

2. You should build your own

3. The thing with HP is they are mass produced, and generally cheap. You can get nice processors but along with that comes cheap ram, cheap motherboard, and a cheap case.

Alot of people get new RAM if they order an HP, and they use ASUS mobo's. Not all HP's are bad. Like Bob said though, they are mass produced, but that to me means that you can get a computer with a nice processor for cheap.

I have a Compaq(HP) and it's a great machine. Don't expect top of the line components in them or anything, but mine is very well made and so far has been EXTREAMLY stable. My only issue is all the software they load on it. Nothing major, just takes some time to clear it all off...

the softwaer? i love that they put on them, its jsut my freezing problem. anyway, good thing it has a warranty, fourth time since october, gets me mad! o well, not my fault.

But about the perfomance, our computer has the best perfomance in my whole family. its the fastest (exept when it freezes! lol) and works well.

but do you know if the new HPs are pavilons? (i dont want that!)

thx

The software is annoying because they put a lot of trials on it. So after you've had the computer for like a month, you get all these renewal notifications.

I, personally, HATE HP's (especially Compaq's). I had an HP for prob about 5-6 years, and the thing crashed AT LEAST twice daily. I found it to be overall, an unreliable machine. If you're going to get a new computer, build your own. If you don't want to do that, and you feel you absolutely HAVE to buy a mass-produced computer, I'd say go with Dell.

if a computer lasts 5-6 years, then thats considered a good long life.

the new hps now are pretty good...not as good as they could be if you built your own but if you dont like to build your own then they arent too bad ive had an hp and 2 compaqs didnt have much trouble and my brother just bought one of the recent hps with amd 3700+ processor and a gig of ram which cost him only like 550...thing bout "mass produced" machines is that their other components which they dont advertise arent as good as you would want them to be...theyre mostly made of generic parts except the graphics card that come with them (which stink anyways) and the processor.
