HP installation nightmare

Hi.

I've had my Officejet Pro L7590 for years and it has worked fine, but recently I had to uninstall and reinstall the software. I had downloaded the latest software for this printer from the website and installed it previously. I liked the improvements in the graphics and wanted to install that software again. When I attempted it, I got this message: "Fatal error. A newer version of this software is installed on this computer. Quitting."

After that, I tried everything to remove all HP files from my system. I ran the newest "scrubber" more then once at level 4, I cleaned the Registry, I manually deleted all the files in the HP and Hewlett Packard folders (except the HPSLPSVC32.DLL file). I even tried to install the old software from my disk. That software will install the printer, but the imaging software is non-functional even though it appears to be there. I got a message when I enabled the printer saying that Windows closed "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services." (Apparently a program was trying to run code from a non-executable memory location.)

There is only one file left in the HP folder: HPSLPSVC32.DLL. I was not allowed to remove that file even though I am the administrator. I attempted to install the newest software again and got the same "fatal error" message.

Now I have repeated everything. I have run ccleaner uninstall which found several HP files. There are no HP files in the Program Files directory. I have even removed DEP from the Generic Host Process for Win32 Services. But somehow, I am unconvinced that any of this is going to help. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a hidden file or set of files that is causing it? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi johnb35.

That may have been a good idea before, but there is nothing left to uninstall. How would I find the HP files as the HP installation most likely would not be listed on a remove or delete list?

Hate to tell you this

The problem is that you have an H.P. product. All of their software is crap.

Hi. Actually Floyd is right! All HP software is problematic to say the least. I was able to delete that last file, although I could not do it in safe mode. I also found a bunch more in the system and system/32 folders. I think there were about five or six that I couldn't delete, so I moved them to the desktop. I got the Malwarebytes software to delete them, but I still have not tried to reload the printer and scanner. I have another small computer that has the software on it, so I am using that to print. I just don't know if I'm ready to search all through all the file folders again if I have to delete the software again.

(By the way, I signed up for the HP forum and posted this same message there--twice!!--and not one response!!!)

What I would really like is a way to tell if all the software is actually deleted but I guess there is no way to do that.

All the best, Lura
