Pentium M processor needs non-PAE 32-bit distro. Suggest Puppy Linux, specifically Slacko 5.7.0 non-PAE. Use imgburn to burn the ISO (about 166MB) and make a LiveCD.
GMA 900 chipset doesn't help. Toshiba hard drives of that era on HPs timed out when towards end of life and have seen it firsthand when one refused to work when wiped with zeroes and installed linux on it.
If puppy doesn't work, go to pawn shop and get a Win7 machine. This one isn't worth it.
