HP Laptop is a dinosaur, looking to buy a new one...

I was suggested to get either an HP or Dell laptop:
My budget is under $400
Mostly use will be for: documents, flashdrive, and wireless internet, and the occasional movie. The longer the battery can last the better!
I would like to keep things simple I've heard windows 7 is a flop? so I am interested in getting a computer with windows XP so I can use my old microsoft office and save money.

I was looking at TigerDirect.com to see what specs they had for computers so far I looked at:

Core 2 Duo is a better processor than Pentium M. Core 2 Duo is a good dual-core while the Pentium M is a single-core.

I think that computer is expensive for a refurbished model.
