Hp Laptop Memory Upgrade

My DV9700t has 2 gb DDR2 667 and I want to upgrade it to 4gbs I know only 3 will be visible, but I figure it is worth it just to get 4 than 3. What I want to know is if I can only use 667mhz Ram or if I can buy the faster ram. I asked a guy at BB but he said it would either downclock the ram or it would burn up my mobo... What do ya'll think? Thanks

It should downclock it. Unless something goes horribly wrong I don't think you'll be frying anything so there's no harm in trying. If the DDR2-667MHz stuff is cheaper you might as well go with it though as the faster RAM wont do anything for you.
