I have a hp 550 laptop, my adaptor is ok, except when I put the pin in at side of laptop it won't come on until I fiddle about with bloody thing if I move position when using, it goes off !!!.

Can someone help please ?......I was born in 1934.....no computers then...shall I give up? :o

Its a rip- off here for repairs......betterto replace.
What happens to all my stuff on this thing.

Pull the hard drive and use a USB bridge to connect it to another computer.

To be fair, it's not a rip off. It's a lot of tedious work to replace a DC jack. I charge $250 myself to do it. You gotta strip the entire machine down (pain in the ass with HP's), unsolder the old jack, and solder the new one into place. Then reassemble the machine.

I do realise what you say mate and accept that.
Anyway if I sit still with laptop, I can still use it. (Hopefully)
Must wait till pension goes up.

Too bad!

I do know that most around here will charge no more than £45 to fix that problem.

Have a look for a local engineer (parish magazines are a good source) and ask.

What a pity you are not nearer mate, they charge that to just look here !!!!
All the best. just using it now but very carefull not to move, it will switch itself off and I have to re-enter.
