HP MINI 210-3050NR Video Issues

I have a laptop from a friend that the screen comes on but only the light is on there is no video displayed... i can plug it into an external monitor and it works normally any suggestions on how i can determine if its just the monitor and if its worth even replacing the monitor on this thing

Well either it is a monitor or gpu, by plugging a external monitor you ruled out gpu so I would say it is the monitor. look on ebay to see parts cost.
