HP Notebook Feedback: $800

Ok. My question #2. I just got an Ok deal on an HP Notebook. I think? I never had an HP. I am pretty much a low-tech mainstream user. I usually use 1 application at a time so I dissed a dual processor. No games or 2D or 3D needs. A low power user here. I use computers for email, research, bill paying, internet, word processing, CD burning etc.

This one is DV4170us and has:

1.73 Pentium M centrino w/ 2MB L2 cache

1Gig SSDram

533FSB

100GB Hard Drive (4200)

15.4 WXGA Display, 1280 x 800

Dual layer R+/-DVD/CD burner w/ Lightscribe

802.11 Intel Pro 2200 wireless, ethernet 10/100, 56K modem

Windows XP w/ Service Pack 2

Intel 900 shared 128mb video card

6/1 Media Flash Reader

Expresscard 54 and 4 USB

Recovery Disk and remote, earbuds, new in the box with 1 year HP warranty.

Anyone with any experience with an HP like this one. Good points and weak points? I thought it was a good deal for me for $800. Thanks, Jack
 
That processor is rather low for the price that you're paying. Everything else would be great, but that should be more around $700 or so... I just went to HP's site and got everything almost identical except for a few things...

1. AMD Sempron processor 2.0 GHz (performs better than an Intel 2.0 GHz and draws less power and produces less heat as well)
2. Same size screen, better quality
3. Dedicated memory for the video (32 MB); all 1024 MB devoted to the system
4. One negative is that the drive is not a Lightscribe drive (additional $25), but the compy would be $45 less (after $50 mail-in, otherwise almost same price...) than the current one that you would be buying.

Thanks DCI. I don't know which series you used for the compys??? 3000, 5000 or 6000? I got higher $ numbers there. Checked refurbs and their DV4270US near identical to the DV4170US is $999. Please correct me. The new series has dedicated video memory which is nice. Cheers, Jack
