HP or Dell?

I want your guys opinions of who builds the better computer? Whether its research or expeirence. Im am looking at a model by each same specs and price and need some help picking one.
 
Now I know you guys bring up customer support (which I had a ruff time with hp customer support in the past) But which laptop company builds a more durable computer do you think? Plus the bestbuy are telling me that with its 12 cell battery it only get 4 hours of battery life. I find this odd because computers with the same specs using the 6 to 9 cell batteries get the same time or better on a charge.
 
I seem to have better luck with Dells than HP. The city I work for has a contract with Dell and I haven't had a problem with any of the laptops we have gotten from them.
 
Come to find out the down side to the Dell is that best buy already have them booted up with there own "anti-virus" and "software that will help me with up dates and install's". I dont like this cause I like to boot up the computer from when I buy it and start customizing it from there, not have to back track and delete all the crap they already did. But on the othere side of things I found out the specs are not the same, dell has i5 cpu and hp has i3. So I am not really sure which way to go.
 
My Dell Studio 17 is awesome, and in general I've heard that Dell laptops are better in quality that their desktops, though I have no idea how and whether these rumours are any true. I haven't had much experience with HP save for a Presario laptop and desktop but they're really Compaqs and I don't know if the Compaq-branded machines are actually made by HP (since they own Compaq), and even though they both were really good while they lasted, they both suddenly died (the dekstop after 3 years of use, my laptop after 2).
 
If you are gonna go HP you might as well go business class instead. About the same price range and way better of a machine. Dells are big, and heavy and clunky if you are buying a laptop. HP Business class laptops aren't all that bad and are easy to work on.

I don't care for any "consumer grade" machines. I like the Latitude & Optiplex lines (Dell) and NC (HP) machines.
 
Neither. -1 for laptop choice.

If i were to go with a laptop i would go with ASUS, They have great Customer Support and there machines are solid :)

True, but there laptops are on the higher end of performance and have crappy battery life, at least the models I have found in my price. And battery is key for me considering I am always on the go being in the Navy.

Navy you say? Why not get a toughbook? ^^
 
toughbooks are niche and not really what he wants. You aren't going to be using this laptop in the field, and tough books are way over priced. Plus they aren't all that tough. Just youtube countless videos of people destroying toughbooks.
