HP Or Dell?

Im buying a new pc and just want to know which brand HP or Dell everyone thinks is better and if they can tell me why they think the one they pick is better

Well, if I had to pick out of those two, I'd pick Dell, because I've owned both a Dell and an HP, and the HP SUCKED. It was slow as hell, and crahsed at least once daily. I HATED the thing. I wanted to throw it on a freeway. I like my Dell MUCH better....and Dells are generally cheaper as well. My machine rarely crashes.....and I rarely have any problems at all with it. Of course, I'd recommend building your own, but if I had to choose between HP or Dell, I'd pick Dell by a mile.

Id go with HP from personal preference. Ive had three of them and my current notebook. Each desktop i had lasted 3-5 years. Ive had one Dell, it lasted about 6 months. But its mainly user preference.

But the best decision, i think, is to build your own.

for desktops, probably dell. for laptops, hp.

I have no idea why, that's just what I would pick :)

what are you going to be using the PC for?

someone has mentioned it i think, but have you considered making your own, or looking at other manufactures. what do u want the computer for?

and i can understand someone not wanting to build their own. it is good to get a nice pc that comes from a company with a warranty for the entire comp e.t.c

i was just like this person a couple weeks ago. i was set on buying Dell. but i've seen the light. i am building. two weeks ago i would have said no way i would but it has been a great learning experience. i have also realized i have to spend a little more than the Dell's advertied 599 or whatever but when i compare what i really want to what i customized on their site. the right machine is about $400 cheaper for me to build. the 599 will work if you are satisfied with just the basic pc. but now that "i know" what a good computer is i would not settle for a prebuilt one.

but to pick between these two Dell all the way.

but even if you went by "specs 101" it would be a better computer.

well i would be using the pc for basic internet suring and multimedia,mp3s videos burning dvds,downloading...but i dont want either brands media machine those are to expensive and where do you guys get you pcs custom built?

Im not a huge fan of Dell personaly ive had alot of problems with there new and old systems. If your going to buy a Dell then I suggest a nice XPS system so that it will actualy be decent. On the otherhand I have my own HP Pavilion 1230n which I have just bought for $800, I must say I am very happy with it and ive had no problems with it what so ever. Theres also the "tech support" issue with dell. If you dont speak Indian then your screwed lmfao.

well i really dont want to spend more then 600 if i can..i will be using it for media,mp3s,downloading,videos,burning i prefer if i can get a flat panel monitor in the package..so what does everyone dell or hp and if you say custom can someone reffer me to a site that i can understand and make my own i dunno about motherboards and shit like that so if theres a site where can custimize like you do on hp or dell please tell me thanks alot

if you dont want to have to worry about learning what to look for in components and stuff, and just want something for doing some media stuff and web browsing, a dell or hp will do you fine. I'd recommend hp.

I like his idea. Although asking this sort of question is going to get you a lot of opinions and no real facts.

I have three Dells at home and all of them have been great computers, but keep in mind when buying the systems the price was well over a grand. Now days I know enough to make my own when the time comes, but back then it was the only option you really had.
I have had no problems with them as a company or with my computers.

My dad has a cheaper dell and its pretty much crap, but it cost him around 500+ and he skimped on a lot of things. I think that’s why a lot of people have a hatred for them, is because they buy a cheap-*ss computer and then expect something great from it.

I think you have to spend some cash and in return you get what you pay for. I guess you could always go the route of building a computer, but then there is a whole other set of issues that go along with that. Warranties, compatibility, support, etc.

I myself would buy another Dell, but my next computer I will probably build myself.

I work at a computer mantnace place and most of the computers I see in a day, are dells.... soooo you can take it from there.

That still means nothing... With millions/billions of computers sold over the years, of course there is going to be more of that company coming in for repairs. I bet 7/10 "averager" computer users own a dell now days...take it from there..

I think no matter what some people will love them and some people will hate them...

I've had a dell and two HP desktops. Personally I think the HP is a lot more upgradable and easy to use. The Dell seems like it's great if you wanna just buy it and have it insured but never do anything else to it.

For Laptops, I go with Powernotebooks because the price was really good and they had great gaming parts. Plus 10/10 on resellerratings
