Hi . I have been given a hp laptop to look at that somebody was given by a school after it had closed down . The problem is it has a school password on it that she dosent know. I cant get into the set up or run a disk. Anybody any idea of how I can get in . I know it has xp installed but I was going to install windows 7 .
Thankyou

Is it a Windows password or a BIOS password? If it's a BIOS password you won't be able to do anything about it.

Its not windows, it was put on by the school. As soon as it starts up it goes straight to a blue box that asks for the password. I don't really know anything about bios passwords. Could it not be all over run with a fresh installation?

That's a password which was set in BIOS, and prompts you for the password before you can boot from any media.

It can be removed, but due to the possible legal issues (such as the laptop was stolen from a business/individual), we can't help you here. If the school gave it to you, you'll have to get in touch with them. If it was from a school, I highly doubt they would just give away laptops without first wiping and removing the passwords.

Ok, thankyou for replies.I believe the school had closed down and the laptops were passed on to whoever asked first for them. I will give it back to my friend thankfully without pulling my hair out to try and fix it for her !
