HP Pavilion a6532f

Hi, I recently bought a Hp Pavilion a6532f and I want to change the power supply to a 430-450 watt power supply to power the Sparkle Nvidia GeForce 8600. The power requirement on the box says 300w but I want to be safe. I have contacted HP for assistance on what power supply would fit in the case, and they redirected me to several resellers, but they all only had the original 250w power supply. Can most power supplies fit in any case? or do they have to fit the dimensions of the original? Cases have latches that support the battery, and I am not sure what to get. If anyone has any idea on what I should get, or knows a lot about power supplies and can give me some information, it would be great. The case is similar to the HP Pavilion 6400. Price is not a big factor, but I would like something around $60 or under. Thanks =)

This is a fairly common question. All power supplies, unless marked as otherwise, are standard size. That is to say, they're all the same shape for the most part..Only real difference in them is say a 550w would be one length, while a 800w might be longer. The reason can be due to quality of components or larger fans, but all cases are for the most part, the same width. So, all power supplies fit that size. 2 PSUs . If you can't fit a standard size power supply in your case or simply don't want to, you have other options...

This for example is a dedicate supplementary power supply that fits in one of your front optical bays..It is dedicated power for your video card . FSP BoosterX 3 . It's another way to go. I've seen them by other companies as well so if one doesn't seem like it would match your case, you can shop around.

Based on appearance, it should fit a standard size power supply. I wouldn't think otherwise. Usually the only computers that can't fit standard size are the slim lines. So, you should be fine w/ a standard power supply :).

I'm pretty sure all of the HP's use the same case. I have an HP Pavilion a6228x and I basically upgraded everything in the computer. I did a lot of research on this too. Unlike Dell, any standard ATX power supply will fit in that computer.

This is what my computer looked like with it installed. I don't think you need to worry about how long the PSU is though. A couple good things to know though, I was worried about what form factor to get. ATX vs. ATX12V. The stock PSU that is in that computer is a regular ATX PSU with a 20-pin mobo connection. However you can get, in fact it would probably be beneficial, to get an ATX12V PSU with a 20+4 pin connection to the mobo. The only disadvantage to installing a new PSU is that the ATX PSU's are also designed for full tower cases. Since the HP case is a mid tower case, you can see, the case becomes a little crowded. I just shoved all of the extra wires into my expansion drive bay.

you should be fine with your 300 watt

Hey K.....?? What is the rest of your sustem running? My system is an HP a1612n With AMD 4200+ 2.2 GHz, 1GB Dual Channel, and a Leadtek 8500GT (which has same power consumption as 8600GT). This is a very budget gaming pc but my stock 300 Watt PSU handles it with no problem. And I have standard rest of stuff...DVD Drive, HDD, ect.

Well on stock specs it was running 2GB Dual Channel Memory, AMD 5200+ @ 2.6GHz, 320GB HDD, and no video card. I added a 500W PSU, 8800GT, and 2GB more RAM.
