HP Pavilion Notebook Problem - Windows Vista

Just wondering if anyone can tell me why my daughter's notebook computer shuts down automatically when it is idle for a few minutes. If I set the computer on the desk and walk away, the screen turns black and it's like it has shut down. Screen saver does not come on. She may just need to adjust the screen saver, but I was wondering if anyone thinks this may be something to do with Vista (we are not really sure how to work Vista yet), or if maybe the computer is just "hibernating." If so, we need to know how to correct this problem. Any help you can give us would be appreciated. She is up at school and looking for help from me. Thanks!. :confused:
 
That's a quick setting in the power options there. When you right click on the desktop a new type of menu screen appears. You will have to get used to the new Vista style with links rather then itemized appearance however. In there you will find 3 different stages with one for performance, another for the average, and a third for balanced. When you click on one of those you simply set both settings there to never. That will keep the screen active.

The screen saver is not active by default like seen in XP. That you will have to assign manually from the list of choices as well as the time delay. The Control Panel also has it's own "new Vista look" there as well.
 
Thanks so much for the info. I figured it is just because we are new to Vista. Probably need to buy a book to figure it all out.
 
Whenever? when each new version of Windows comes out everybody does seem to get a little... lost? :confused: at first. :P XP has it's own unique XP style gui cpmpared to the old Windows 9X-ME, and NT/2000 face plates to ponder on at first along with the new and much dreaded "product activation". Once you work with a new version and get past the initial menus and new options you usually are able to find your way around. Fortunately help files with a list of subjects in the contents section will display to coach you through.
