I am looking to buy one of these computers:

1.) Hp Pavilion a1520y w/ Windows Xp home edition, Intel Pentium 4, 1 GB memory, and a 80GB Hard Drive.

2.) Dell Dimension E310 w/ Windows Home edition, Intel Pentium 4, 1 Gb memory, and a 80 GB hard drive.

I will only use this computer for Word Documents, Internet, CD/DVD Burning, and the occasional downloading of music and other things.

Which computer would be the best for me???

Same price...$669 after rebates....I was just wondering if there is a difference between the two in which one performs better than the other.

I never really liked HP. Never had problems with them just not my first choice but then recently i had dell they sent me that didnt work and they refuse to do anything about it. As well ive had a lot of people complain about dells. Id say go with the Hp.

Id say go with the HP :) i have a DELL and a HP wich are almst completely alike..and HP performs better :|

I'd go with HP... I don't care for either brand, but my HP did seem to do better than the Dell's I've been working with at work... HP's also have more room for expansion(just really hard to add drives) more PCI slots, and come with firewire.

Which?

Without a doubt go with the Dell. Why? The ability and ease to upgrade. Also I have had no issues (hardware wise) with my Dell's over the last 15yrs. The cases are much easier to work with. :D

Yeah but this doesnt mean its gonna happen to every single Hp computer out there.

You can spend over $1000 or more on a computer and something could just suddenly die within a few weeks.

i would go with the HP. i have a HP and i love it!, dell i do not lke at all, i had lots of problems with them and i went to upgrade one that i had and when i bought it, they said i could upgrade it. i took it to dell and 3 outher places and they said it cant be upgrade. so id go with the HP:)

i dont think it really matters. go with dell because d is before h in the alphabet. You can upgrade either one.

id go with HP personally, i have a newer dell and an older HP wich runs a lot better with no problems

I hate HP. They have crappy technical support. Every HP machine I have ever worked on has been a nightmare. Yuck. Junk. Blech.

I do like Dells, but only the higher end Dells. They have now gotten rid of their shipping charges, which is a bonus. They are very reliable and they have an excellent reputation.

The problem with the lower end machines is that they use 533MHz buses instead of 800Mhz, they don't exactly use the best RAM in the world, and they have onboard video cards. They are great for enterprise use, and certainly I have seen a zillion of them used for that purpose, but I don't exactly recommend them for gaming.

Frankly I recommend having one custom built...
