HP Pavillion dv2000 problems

Hi all,

Im hoping someone maybe able to shed some light on a problem that came up with my laptop.

I have a HP Pavillion dv2000 laptop running windows xp home edition. The laptop is around 2 years old now. Recently the laptop has developed a problem where i can be working on it and a grey square will appear around the cursor and move with the cursor, some images down in the bottom right corner (battery,wireless etc) will become blured and then the computer will go into screensaver mode for a few seconds and then out again and eventually just freeze up with a black screen.

I can turn of the laptop by using the power button but it will not restart correctly unless left for a day or two. I can only get 5-10 mins usage of the computer correctly. There is no pattern or anything in particular that i can pin point causes the problem. I have recovered the laptop using hp's recovery system installed on the harddrive but it has had no effect.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'll also ad that i have current norton security and windows defender installed and upto date reporting no problems.

Norton doesn't cover malware and when I had norton it didn't cover a lot of the spyware I got either. I had a desktop with similar signs and the hard drive took a crap, don't know if my hard drive was going out or if a virus did it.
