HP Pavillion dv7 problems

Hey guys!

just wondering you could help me. i have a hp pavillion dv7 laptop.

here is the specs
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.110408-1633)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
System Model: HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz (8 CPUs), ~1.6GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 8126MB RAM

basically its running slow games lag i cant really use 1600x900 because its slows down game play and such. basically when i bought it it was "powerful" to basically to do anything but it doesnt >_>

any help! any ideas?

what is its graphics card, if you don't know than click on the windows logo/start, right click on my computer and go to properties, then near the top left click device manager, and go to display adapters and tell us what's in that catagory, i can see 2 problems, the integrated gpu is all and it is going to be hd 3000, which is good and all but not for gaming, then otherwise it has a good gpu, but when running off battery doesn't allow it to pull its needed power, or it isn't set up to use the gpu somehow.
 
idk how, but sometimes power management will make it so the gpu can't turn on unless it's plugged in or something wimilar to that to conserve battery, i know on my friends lappy it has a specific panel for all the gpu related stuff on his.
 
A reformat and reinstall of the OS would probably do wonders, laptops often come loaded with bloatware and pointless programs.
 
idk but i don't think you can, and if you can i'm sure it isn't easy or cheap, to replace laptop gfx cards.

its MXM 3.0 removable and replaceable. And the DV7 has always had heating issues on the GPU. Try using an app that will show your temps in game and see where it gets you.
 
yeah the heating problem is a bitch but i sorted that out by elevating the laptop, then i just got a cooling pad so that is fine now :)

i will double check the temperature when playing that is probably a good idea.

Also so i can change the graphics card in my laptop?
recommendation for a new graphics card? prices? and such?
 
technically it is possible to do so, but I would not try another card (like a different series or such) until you are sure that the problem is with the card.
Have you tried updating your CCC drivers from AMD?
 
just updated using the amd auto detect. i manually installed the drivers last time seems to have helped a bit.

its good to know there is an option to change my graphics card
 
To follow up to what wolfeking suggested and your updating, if you go to HP's laptop website and look up your model you will see people in their reviews reporting the same issues.

Believe it or not HP actually responds to these people in said reviews and it is a driver issue on HP's part and not AMD's. They address the correction needed.

Your posting caught my attention as you referenced a DV7 notebook. I regret the issues you are experiencing. I don't know whether this is helpful, but HP has announced a bios update for your model. See details below:

We have a new BIOS Update for dv6t and dv7t units ( F.1A ) SP54024 http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=5111980&sw_lang=
This update will enable a customer to switch from Dynamic Mode to Fixed mode. This can be done in F10 setup:
> System Configuration > then toggle Switchable Graphics Mode from Dynamic to fixed. Then Save = exit.
Switching for fixed mode will allow the unit to run in High Performance mode for Open GL based SW such as Adobe Premiere and many games.
